Magnavox Guarantee - Selling another one!

I was a Magnavox fan (3 TVs, 2 VCRs, 2 CD players) BUT got a Magnavox MDV530VR combo for Christmas (2003). The DVD worked well, but the VCR never worked very well. No visible tape was ever recorded or played back from another VCR, although my other 3 VCRs (2 Magnavox) produced recordings that were completely interchangeable. Sometimes it didn't even play movies from a videocassette I bought. Eventually I got fed up and got a receipt from the person who bought the gift (since Magnavox requires proof of purchase) and contacted Magnavox (whose support team moved to India along with everyone else). I found that the Magnavox warranty allows you to buy a new device - sort of a deal. They were quite willing to replace my defective block that they originally produced if I was willing to mail them the old block (at my own expense) plus a check for $99 plus tax. What is the business plan. How can Magnavox lose! This brings the replacement cost closer to the cost of the defective unit I already have. It would cost me about that much if I just threw away my bad block and bought a new one through Revain. I'm sure Magnavox will 'fix' the device I'm sending back (after all, I gave them $99 for it) and ship it to the next idiot to return it. Who knows, I might even stumble upon someone's "fixed" device. On the other hand they don't let me pay for shipping the replacement they send me (NOT). Stay away from this company as much as possible. Whoever offers such a guarantee does not earn a dollar from us. Our solution is to show the same indifference to their products that they show to us as customers.
