Unsatisfactory longitudinal characteristics and a broken tip lead to regret.

This one was disappointing. I bought this because it was advertised as slotting and I had about 350 MCM to strip. Fail. The spring return of this tool offers tremendous resistance and while there is a lock for an angle cut (to make a spiral cut) and a standard lock for a crosscut, there is no lock for a rip cut. You'll have to spread the wire, twist the handle while pressing the hook against your thumb, and then let it pinch and cut into the insulation, but that will help if you don't maintain the thumb's full resistance. If you lose tension, the blade will rotate back to the cross position, even if the tip is still insulated. Attempting to lower this tool a length of more than an inch or so is pointless. So this is disappointing. In an attempt to overcome this, the tip of the blade snapped off (nor did it appear to have been subjected to any significant stress). Luckily I ordered a spare blade just in case, but even after putting it in the tool the inability to cut lengthways remained. I can't even give the tool five stars for durability due to the broken blade, although the body of the tool certainly feels solid. In short, if you want to make rip cuts longer than an inch or two, look elsewhere. If you just want to strip or trim the end in a spiral then this tool will do just that. But frankly, for the cost, you can get the utility knife just as quickly and for a lot less money.

Pros
  • VERSATILE: This cable cutter can cut through various jacket materials such as PVC, rubber, polyethylene and many more.
Cons
