I have already contacted NDS direct and sent pictures of my setup. Essentially, the filter does not have a high enough flow rate to handle heavy rain and relies on a "bypass" design. It seems to me that this filter is actually designed for bypass use because even on a normal rainy day (nowhere near a downpour) the filter was full and the bypass was used. That's good, but grass clippings and leaves also clog or pass through the bypass, defeating the purpose of the filter. According to Revain's listing, the filter should also be able to withstand 40 pounds without cracking. That's not the case, I broke two when I took the filter out of the water-filled water trap. Once a few tabs snap it puts even more stress on the others and soon they're all snapped. I poured water in and lifted it into the air and the flow rate was terrible, there was no way to handle constant rain or downpours, again leading me to believe the bypass was really necessary and not failsafe. However, the filter caught dirt and small stones. And worms.
