4K is trending in 2015. There are many displays for the same price or even less than the PB278Q! Why should I choose this one? I use this monitor for a variety of purposes and I assume you may be referring to one of them. First, this monitor connects to both a PC gaming rig and a Macbook Pro Retina. use both daily. // Graphics/Encoding/General Usage (Macbook Pro Retina connected via HDMI): - The screen real estate is great. Sure, a 4K monitor would be better, but 1440p is a great compromise between 4K and 1080p. - Colors look great. I don't need a perfectly calibrated monitor, but I wanted something better than a TN panel. I use the sRGB preset, that's enough for me! There are calibrated color profiles and monitor presets online, but that low brightness hurts. The built-in speakers are boomy when listening to music, but work damn well when watching videos. They don't distort and get very loud! My only concern is that the volume cannot be controlled directly from the OS (I think it's an HDMI issue). - OS X looks ok, no scaling for me. Even when using a retina display, the pixel density looks great (sits at 2.5ft) -------------//Games/General Use (PC connected via DVI): So, before this one Monitor, I used the Asus VG248QE 144Hz monitor. This is a 1080p TN panel designed for gaming. The games look great. Seriously, the monitor is great. When I was hoping to play CS:GO I thought I had SweetFX enabled! The pale colors of the TN panel and the rich colors of the PLS panel don't go together. But are games really fun? nope Not if you've been spoiled by the glory of 144Hz and 1ms. Am I going to get used to this? I do not know. I have 144hz in the box and am trying to set it again for FPS games. This is not a gaming monitor. This is a great monitor to use for gaming. My 780Ti holds up to 60 fps in most games I've tried with my old settings. - Games look great as I explained above - 60Hz is a pain. Tried to overclock it > went to 90hz > checked for frame drops > disgustingly bad > repeated -10hz > same results. Windows looks ok, text is not too small. Again no scaling. ------------- I like this monitor, but it's not without its flaws. I have attached a photo of it but I assure you 100% honestly that it is NOT noticeable and looks much worse in the photo. At first I couldn't even understand if it was a slight highlight or not. More like a color change from an odd angle. Everything OK. That's what I was afraid of before I bought the monitor. - The menu is weird. It's ok, but it could be much better (steal an LG, Asus joystick). The only thing stopping me from getting 5 stars is the flare. It's not a big deal, but it's a budget monitor. All in all a great monitor. Enough space to turn around, not enough pixels to make your PC sweat and fight while gaming. Sorry for the long review but when I need a new gadget I love reading it! And also to the one who gave ONE STAR for "the rear ports are horribly designed and inaccessible" - I've used all types of inputs on this monitor and it was perfect for every cable.
