Unless you're a professional gamer competing at the highest level, you really don't need a 1ms response time on a gaming monitor. In other words, you don't really need the TN panel that's often found in BenQ monitors (not all models, but definitely the most popular ones). Don't get me wrong, BenQ makes phenomenal monitors, but if you're like me and image quality/color is important, I recommend getting an IPS monitor. This is a newer technology that offers better color and quality. The disadvantage of IPS monitors is that it is very difficult to achieve response times below 5ms. As I mentioned above, unless you are a professional player, there is a very good chance that you won't even notice the difference. I play YouTube and play fairly competitive games and I haven't noticed any difference between a BenQ 1ms and an Acer 6ms when playing a startle reaction (COD) game. Now if we talk about a 55 inch flat screen TV versus a 27 inch monitor, you will definitely notice a difference in response time as a larger TV is likely to have a response time closer to 45ms. Trust me when I tell you, you will absolutely notice the difference between a high quality IPS and a high quality TN monitor, the color of the TN panel will look washed out 10/10 times. Resolution does matter here, of course, but if we're talking console gaming (which I am), 1080p 60fps is the max you'll get during this review. Now that we've got that out of the way, here's my review of the actual monitor. Let's be clear, this is a PREMIUM monitor. When this monitor came out a few years ago, it cost around $700 (yes, this monitor is several years old). $700 for a gaming monitor or second display is a lot of money, no doubt about that. Now that this monitor is a few years old and Asus has newer models (for a lot more money), this monitor is $400. Asus monitors, at least in my experience, have a thicker side in terms of physical dimensions. It's not because it's older technology, as Asus is still making thicker monitors. However, this is a thicker monitor, so keep that in mind before you buy one. Not so thick that it's a nuisance or a deal breaker, but it's not as thin as some Acer models on the market, for example. And that is maybe the end of the negative part of this review. I'm considering this monitor for gaming and a second monitor - I use this monitor for both. Let's talk about the most important thing, about the picture. This monitor looks good. The picture is very sharp and clear, the colors are vibrant and it's a really nice visual experience. This will be a huge upgrade for almost all entry-level TN panels and IPS monitors. I really enjoy a beautiful picture and am willing to sacrifice some response time, this monitor is worth it I assure you. If picture quality/color is important to you, stop reading and add this monitor to your cart; you will not regret it. After all, unless you're a professional gamer, this really is the most important part when it comes to a monitor. The adjustable stand of this monitor caused a lot of hate as I read the reviews before deciding to buy it. I have to say I don't agree with the negative reviews about the stand. I find the adjustable stand quite comfortable and works well. It has all the settings you need to position your screen in the perfect position for you. The base of the stand is quite large and I'm not sure if it's absolutely necessary. But then again, it's not that important. One of my favorite monitor features is the built-in speaker. It's not a lousy speaker, it's actually pretty loud and pretty clean! If I get tired of using the headset for FPS, I appreciate the fact that it has a solid speaker. For many of you this may not matter because you use external speakers, but for those who don't use or don't want to spend the extra cash on external speakers this is another win for you. Monitor for gaming and as a second monitor for PC/Mac. Spend money on something you will use for a long time, in the end you will really appreciate it. By the way, 2K is a really nice touch when it comes to a good picture.
