Review on Counter ๐ŸŒณ Snap OBerry Wood Flooring by David Finley

Worth a try but difficult to use effectively

I have an old house with lots of creaky floors, 6-15 per room, 8 rooms plus hallways. I bought 100 screws to see if they would be an effective solution. I tested in a room with 4 squeak zones. Per squeak, 6 to 25 screws were required to reduce or eliminate the squeak, for a total of 50 screws used in the space. With 50 screws per room, a pair of boxes of 250 pieces. would be worth the cost. Each time I snapped the screw, the ring tore a large hole in the wood just above the snap point. In some cases, large chips have been pulled out that need to be taped back. I don't know if this ring is an intentional design feature but at least on my floors the product would have been better without the ring. My floors are over 120 years old and already have a lot of stains and dents so this mostly annoys me, but on floors with less "character" it can make repairs difficult. Overall the bottom has improved a lot and while the cost of the squeak is a bit more than I would like, if it lasts it's an acceptable value. Edit: With more practice, I've gotten better at figuring out the best screw locations to eliminate the squeak. From time to time I can do it with one screw, but sometimes it can take 3 or 4. Almost all of my ratchets are bolted to the beam, and these bolts (not the other wide-pitch kind) work great in my cleat. Some squeaking occurs between the joists and works well there, but a few more screws are usually required.

Pros
  • This kit contains 50 screws designed to eliminate creaking between or on beams.
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
