The dial gauge is rough and jerky, you need to average the results and hope they are accurate enough. I used this kit to measure camshaft, pump and pump stroke on a VW IDI 1.6 engine. The cam lock is flimsy and you can find other flat pieces of steel that do the same. The injection pump locking pin is a loose fit and the bushing works as well or better. I ended up buying other tools to do the same thing. better work. I have very little confidence in the accuracy of timing with this set. I suppose it's better than nothing, but there are better tools to synchronize these diesel engines. The description mentions VW TDI with AHU and 1Z engines, no dial indicator is required for TDI pumps. The cam and pump locks from this kit can be used but they do not fit well and will allow the cam and pump to rotate. You can use any flat bar and shims to adjust the cam, the nut can be used to lock the pump. TDI AHU, 1Z, ALH need proper scan tool to set pump control. The price of this set is too high for the poor quality.
