Review on Prevue Pet Products Mesh Catcher by Teresa Becker

Good intentions, bad design and bad quality

I really hate leaving negative reviews, much happier when I can praise a product. Unfortunately I wish I had read comments like the ones I'm about to make before making this purchase. I am VERY disappointed in this product. I bought the size Large which according to the packaging "should match the circumference of the cage from 52" to -100". It really should mean that it expands to 100." The first thing that came to me right after the Unpacking noticed there were rubber straps at the top and bottom. They looked unlike any type of rubber band I've ever seen and didn't seem to have much "interlocking" at all. Girth so I had to have at least 8 inches to play with when putting it on. Not so. The catcher just reached the cage. Stretches almost like leather. Then the rubber band gave out so much that it no longer holds, continues to slide down, and it has been less than an hour since it was put on. Considering the quality of the elastic it wouldn't matter, even if I ordered XL it would probably slip further and faster. I don't know how it will contain seeds, powder or feathers when I try to remove it. I foresee a mess everywhere if I try. It might work in small desk cages for cockatiels or whales, but even then I don't see it for long-term use because the gum is such low quality. You have to somehow attach it to the cage to keep it in place, but that's inconvenient. Every bird I've ever had, no matter how big or small the species, is drawn to and will nibble at every clip attached to or even near its cage. If it had a better fit I'd try to salvage it by running a better quality elastic on both the top and bottom, but this one just isn't worth it. If you are making traps that need to fit squares from 52 to 100 inches in circumference, not only does the circumference need to be OVER 100 inches, but the height of the traps must also increase in proportion to the size. At only 13 inches as you can see in the picture it doesn't go up far enough to reach the top of the feeders and it doesn't go down far enough to catch debris on the bottom. They really need to rethink and improve them. Hating to leave everything so negative, I'll end on a positive note: the mesh material appears to be of the type that can control some of the powder produced by many bird species, the weave is tight enough to allow for this do Keep claws and beaks from being easily pierced. So if the product were the right height and girth it could be very useful and welcome to those of us who have large parrots whose powder coats any surface within a 20 foot radius.
