Over a year with no problems.

This is clearly a weak point of the Honda K24 engine as it leaks and fails quite often. Tired of $350 "SAE Technician" repairs, I bought one of these. On the Element (and possibly the CRV) it's easier to remove the right front wheel and jack up the car. You can almost see the block and it's easier if possible to access it and tighten the wheel arch bolts. Removing the old one is easy. As far as fine-tuning the new one goes, you can barely see where it's going and it's hard to feel it in place. I bought new screws, so I cut off the heads of the old screws and screwed two of them into the threads. Chapter. Slip the solenoid over two "guide pins" - old headless screws - and it holds in place. I then screwed in a new bolt and tightened to hold the solenoid in place. Two grub screws loosened and new ones screwed in. Pulled them up and put them in. I used a code reader which indicated a faulty spool valve solenoid which I already knew from shaking and jumping. It's been over a year and I remember it working for about a mile at first but then after a few cycles of turning the ignition off and on the code reset and it's been fine ever since. Net savings of $300.

Pros
  • EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE
Cons
  • Out of fashion
