The best photo scanner for those old photos you have in your box.

If you don't want to read the entire review below, here's the conclusion. If you want to scan to backup old photos, Plustek Z300 is your best choice. Affordable, fast, automatic cropping and excellent color accuracy. This review will be a comparison between my two best scanners. Comparison of Plustek Photo Scanner and Doxie Go SE. During my research, these two scanners were my top choices based on reviews, features, and price. I first bought the Moxie and it has proven to have decent scanning speeds, good image quality and the added portability feature. Because it has a battery and internal storage, I can take it with me and scan anywhere in the house. This isn't the feature I was looking for, but I see its appeal. Even though Moxxi had two deal breakers for me. Auto crop failed and color rendering was poor. Don't get me wrong, the auto crop is supposed to work, but I was never able to get this feature to work even after calling support. While the support was helpful, the problem was that the scans clearly didn't match the original image. Support recommends using a third-party platform such as Lightroom. While this is good advice, my goal was to scan the hundreds of images I had in a huge box and not spend too much time cropping and editing. Although I liked Moxie and saw how it could be useful for other scanning scenarios, the problems I encountered made me drop it and move on to a different solution. To be fair to Moxie, I fiddled with the settings to see if I could "type" it in and get it to work, but it should have worked. I then used my flatbed scanner to see what it would look like. Needless to say, the tablet produced exactly what I was looking for, but it wasn't a good alternative because I didn't want to open that lid a million times, endlessly press the button, wait and get the picture. The second scanner I bought was Plustek. After a quick 5 minute setup, I added the same photo I used as a test image. First, the speed was really impressive. I'd say it was about twice as fast as the Moxie, but it's not like speed was the deciding factor as I would choose quality over speed if I had to. After saving the scanned Plustecks software without editing, I compared it to my other test scans and wow! It was very close to a flatbed scanner! The auto crop was perfect and the color was great. So far I'd say the software is good for both scanners, although after a few minutes of use I prefer the Plustek. If you want to scan a large box of photos, Plustek ticks all the boxes. Affordable, fast, easy to use and with great results, Plustek has earned its place as my photo archiving assistant.
