Excellent. Not Great Cable Stripper

Purchased after watching the video but having used the tool myself I'm not sure if this is the best tool available. First, as another reviewer pointed out, the dial is very difficult to turn (even after pushing the spring-loaded cable stay down) and the tool definitely requires very strong thumb strength to push the cable stay up as it is. My main issue with this scraper (and most other similar devices) is that there is no method to ensure repeatability such as: B. a numbered scale or a pointer on the blade height dial. Rely on trial and error (on a piece of scrap) to get the right cutting height (because the rubber coating tends to compress), and this setting can even vary between manufacturers. For example, I've used this on both #12 AWG SJOOWs from Cerrowire and Carol Cable; The Carol product has a rubber jacket with wax paper fillers between the strands, while the Cerrowire cable is a hard rubber jacket with no fillers. So both cables require slightly different torch heights. Another inconvenient downside to this wire stripper is that you have to turn the entire handle 90 degrees (as opposed to pushing a lever or button) to cut the cable jacket lengthwise. You just have to make sure the direction of rotation is opposite of the blade that moves the cable down (or up) (because the rotation of the handle is spring loaded, if you try to move the tool in the direction of rotation it will be difficult Be careful to hold the handle in the 90 degree cutting position as you move along the cable). I didn't need the coil stripping feature and didn't try to use that feature. be too expensive for what it does. I will most likely return this money back tool and try another brand that is easier to use (and thumb friendly).

Pros
  • ADJUSTABLE BLADE: The blade can be adjusted to facilitate cutting different sizes of round cable from 3/16" to 1 1/8" (4.5mm to 29mm) in diameter
Cons
  • Some problems
