Review on πŸ”§ Precision Soldering Made Easy with SainSmart TS80P Adjustable Temperature Soldering Iron by Justin Zilinskas

The firmware is too complicated for this

If I hadn't seen DIY YouTubers using this successfully I would have thought it was a scam product. When it arrived I found that a firmware update was required. The manual tells you to go to the manufacturer's product page, where there is no link or indication of how to find the firmware file you should download (it's also a Chinese company, so if you don't like broken English , you can do it hard). Eventually they discovered that there is a completely different site for their forums (almost entirely in Chinese) and stumbled upon where they post links to download the firmware. It turned out that my device already had the latest firmware, so I immediately tried to use it, but it doesn't work. to warm. I watched their video on how to use it and found that you need to adjust the settings to specify what temperature it should heat to. But when I try to enter settings, it restarts every time I press the settings button. Then found that it restarts no matter what key I press. So I tried reinstalling the latest firmware to no avail. Tried to install the only previous firmware version available for download, to no avail. Tried updating to the latest version with no success. Apparently mine is a bug, and the forums are so hard to navigate and read that I don't have much hope of assistance.

Pros
  • Smart and Safe: With the built-in STM32 chip, the TS80P can intelligently control the temperature rise and fall of the tip, and also has sleep mode, auto power off, security protection and other modes. The application code layer is open source; You can freely develop the soldering iron firmware as you need.
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
