This scanner is great for books and magazines so you can scan them on your tablet without damaging them. Lasers are very good at detecting curves and digitally leveling the image. I like the pedal when I have to scan hundreds of pages. The reason it gets three stars instead of five is because the actual image quality leaves a lot to be desired. This is great for black and white text, but each color looks very washed out, it's difficult to capture an image like you would with a flatbed scanner. Often there is glare from the light that cannot be erased. It really should be able to scan images in normal light without the extra glare from the light, but if you're scanning without the extra lamp it's too dark to see anything.
