Review on EPAuto 12V DC Portable Air Compressor Pump, Digital Tire Inflator by Michael Ringgold

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great Little Compressor.

Despite some of the negative comments I read about this compressor prior to purchasing, I am completely satisfied with this product. A day or two after receiving my new EPAuto 12V DC Portable Air Compressor Pump, Digital Tire Inflator, I decided to give it a test. As part of my monthly routine vehicle maintenance, I checked and serviced the tire pressure on two vehicles, a 2000 Toyota Camry and Toyota Tacoma Pickup. Here are my findings.1. The compressor is small and lightweight which means it tends to vibrate around on the floor when operating while unsecured and left unattended. It's compact enough to take up minimal space if you plan to store it inside your vehicle.2. When plugged into the cigarette lighter of either vehicle, the length of the power cord and air hose is just long enough to reach all four tires with about two feet of slack at each point. It may not have sufficient reach for vehicles having a longer wheelbase.3. Although the accompanying literature specifically states the compressor is not suitable for servicing LT (Light Truck) tires, I didn't encounter any issues when servicing mine.4. The screw-on valve stem adapter is a really nice feature that offers hands-free servicing. You screw the adapter onto your valve stem, turn on the compressor, set your desired pressure then walk away. The compressor turns off when the preset pressure has been reached. (For those who may not be mechanically inclined, there is a slight pressure bleed-off from the hose once it's disconnected from the valve stem. This is normal, and the valve core inside the stem protects you from losing tire pressure.)5. The digital readout is nice and the compressor appears to have a factory preset at 30 psi. The pressure setting can be adjusted in half pound increments using the +/- buttons. Your desired preset pressure is locked in until the next time it's changed by the user.6. The integrated light is a nice additional feature for potential nighttime use, i.e. when servicing tires along the side of a highway. There is no On/Off switch for the light as stated by other reviewers but this is not a show stopper. The light being turned on does not detract from the operation of the compressor itself. I would not even refer to it as a nusiance.7. The design of the compressor allows the power cord and air hose to be conveniently wound around the compressor itself for storage.8. The compressor arrives with a small zippered storage bag which in my humble opinion is too small for the compressor. I guess you could make it work with enough effort but I decided to toss the bag in the garbage.9. When I disconnected the hose from my tires after servicing, I checked tire pressure with a separate tire pressure gauge to verify the compressors' preset pressure setting. On average the tire pressure gauge indicated a reading that was two pounds over the preset setting. Based on this, the pressure reading from the compressor itself appears to be adequate since filling tires with compressed air is not rocket science. If your tires end up being serviced over the desired pressure, just bleed a little off.As a professional mechanic I do recommend this product as a reliable and low-cost option for auto enthusiasts, those who service their own vehicles or for anyone who wants a portable air compressor for peace of mind during those unforeseen roadside emergencies.
