I think I paid about $25 for mine. I thought the price was so low simply because of the cheapening of the technology. (It's been years since I've had to buy a new one.) This piece was the most frustrating junk I've ever dealt with. The electronics must have sucked because sometimes I would press one button and another would happen (for example I would press pause and the track would repeat, or I would press next and it would die out). It was also unpredictable whether he would actually start reading the CD. All I could hear was the engine constantly trying to come home. for almost 30 seconds. Maybe I was just unlucky, but that was my experience.
