Color easily wears off

The color wears off way too easily - every time it is covered I have more and more wear spots. It probably wasn't top-coated with any kind of protection. Although I love the fireplace, I'll need to remove the stain from the fiberglass, then apply some kind of gel stain. For the price, I would not expect to have to do significant repairs after 1 or 2 months usage - especially at this price point, which is far from cheap.
