Review on Werner Extension Ladder Pulley Replacement Assembly Kit - Model 31-12 by Johnny Nguyen

Use a socket wrench to install

So my old 24ft extension ladder (manufacturer unknown) needed a new pulley assembly (and cable). To install, the machine screw (included) goes through one end of the (flexible) rail mount, through the pulley (wheel) assembly, and exits the other end of the rail mount. A lock nut is then placed on the bottom of the mounting bolt, holding everything in place. As I've learned, the lock nut must be tightened with a wrench, in this case a socket wrench, or it won't ride over the bolt; it will be fixed on the screw when tightened. My regular wrench didn't tighten the lock nut enough; So a socket wrench was used and he tightened the locknut tighter or further over the machine bolt. The instructions say to use a 7/16" wrench, so I'm assuming we (my neighbor the mechanic did this for me) used a 7/16" socket. rivet --- we didn't do it. I may find another way to attach the crossbar mount to the crossbar, but it's not necessary. My old pulley assembly was not attached to the crossbar. By the way, according to the instructions, you should remove the old pulley with a chisel and hammer. This didn't work either. We needed a saw tool to remove it. My ladder was already removed and hanging on the inside of the garage door, hence the pulley in the photos is on the side. Also, my crotch is just under 5 inches in diameter. I also bought a replacement rope, Werner Extension Ladder, AC30-2, and it worked great. I used a candle to melt the ends to prevent fraying.
