Doesn't reach 400 degrees. Fluctuating temperatures

Doesn't reach 400 degrees as written, I could barely reach 350. This is important when using certain hot melt adhesives. I preheated it for 15 minutes, then used it for over an hour and still didn't get to the temperature advertised by this gun. (With an instant read thermometer and infrared) This is disappointing as this is a $150+ handgun. It works, but misinformation. Also, I have a 40w Walmart gun that cost me $20 15 years ago that actually keeps temps around 320+ and does the job well. I figured if I bought this gun it would outperform my old one. The only difference I got was that the Surebonder doesn't drip as much as my old gun, heats up faster and can apply more glue faster, and is more ergonomic too. I still wonder how a 40 watt cannon can handle a 300 watt cannon. My mind is confused, I believe that when the thermostat is activated for a short time, the temperature of the glue in the gun drops dramatically. I would take readings from 230 to 340 s. And I've had great connections at times while others have been weaker. (Using a Surebonder 735r10 glue marked as 'industrial use'. I ran several tests over the course of about 3 days. It's a great glue gun by all accounts. But it's overpriced and it should be the advertised temperature achieve and be more consistent.

Pros
  • Glue guns
Cons
  • Very expensive
