Review on Denso IW16TT Iridium Spark Plug by Douglas Berry

Twin Tip Iridium/Platinum Spark Plug

I have a '93 Toyota pickup, 22re, 4cyl. I decided to try these IW16TT iridium plugs after looking at the Denso IW16 iridium plug. At the time of purchase, the TT was only $1.20 more per fork than the IW16, so why not? My previous forks were about 30,000 Mikes, they were OEM Denso W16EXR-U copper forks. The advantage of any iridium spark plug is longevity. I've driven a lot of miles on my pickup so hopefully I won't have to change them that often. Denso says this particular version of the TT has 100,000 miles on it. Just take a look. The IW16TT has an iridium center electrode and a larger platinum ground electrode. So the branding is a bit misleading as it's kind of a hybrid. The first impression is good, the throttle response is crisp again and the idle is soft. I religiously track my fuel consumption and look forward to seeing if I get an mpg benefit from these plugs. I will definitely report back. I've averaged 22.3mpg over the last 30,000 miles with copper plugs, the same daily commute and ethanol-free gas. Do they cost 4 times as much as copper candles? Time will tell if I drive them 100,000 miles they will. Are they worth the extra $1.20 over regular iridium connectors? I don't think you could go wrong. The iridium tip on the center electrode is the same size (0.4mm) on both electrodes, so the X-factor is determined by whether the platinum tip on the ground electrode is the same thickness or contributes something to the performance.
