Review on Fel Pro MS98016T Intake Manifold Gasket by Mike Hernandez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Thoroughly clean contact surfaces!

These gaskets appear to have a nice thick sealing surface! I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado with a 4.8 LR4 engine that was giving OBDII codes P0171, P0174 and P0300 which means there is air leaking somewhere after the mass air flow sensor in the vacuum system so with the misfire code I was pretty sure that it was there was a mistake A leaking intake manifold gasket is a common problem on LR4s. So I reviewed the pads at my local auto zone and the pre-car wanted $83 for the same pad so I had to give in to get through the $48 revain. Be careful when disassembling, many plugs and connectors are plastic and you don't want to break any of them! After removing the manifold, it is very important to thoroughly clean the contact surfaces on the heads and manifolds! The heads are relatively easy to clean with a throttle body cleaner, a soft bristle brush and a clean rag! Make sure you clean the front and rear cap screws well. This will hold these seals in place. Take the time to clean the header, it's black plastic and carbon deposits are harder to see! Make sure the new gaskets fit snugly over the head bolts, then place the manifold, making sure it is seated properly and start hand tightening the bolts, then use a 2-torque torque wrench -Method. I uploaded the photo! Then 2nd torque at 89 in-lb in the same order! Then reinstall all vacuum line connections etc.! Then clear all OBD codes, start the engine and you should be ready to cross your fingers, you won't be getting any codes, at least not for a while!
