I didn't buy this from Amazon, I bought it from a military department store. But today I came to Amazon looking for another one, found these horrible reviews and felt compelled to write a positive one. The battery part is not that hard to find! Maybe it's because we have a lot of kids toys that drain batteries a lot, but usually we know where to look for the battery compartment if its location doesn't seem obvious. I didn't even know finding a test field was a "thing" until reading these reviews today. The sharpener itself does a fantastic job of sharpening. It makes sharp points and cuts through even the cheapest plastic-wrapped pencils with ease. The batteries have worked for us since we put them in about a year ago and this thing is used every day at our home office so isn't a financial drain. It has a smaller shaving reservoir than we originally hoped, but the kids taught themselves how to empty it, and now I'm useless when it comes to pencil sharpening. This is a good and cheap alternative to the more expensive cordless sharpeners. . As I said, I came here today to buy another one. I will continue to buy these sharpeners until they are discontinued.
