Good brewing thermometer with some weaknesses

I bought this thermometer for use in home brewing, specifically to check the temperature during mashing and to cool down after the flame has gone out. I used it for the first time last weekend and it worked pretty well, the temperatures measured were accurate. However, there were two issues that don't really get in the way of functionality, and one of them is more app-related in my opinion, but both are annoying nonetheless. First, the sensor and cable are packed in a tight circle in the box. Unfortunately the wire held its shape making it difficult to straighten. In fact, I held it over the ambient heat of my propane lamp and tugged on the wire hoping to straighten it, but to no avail. I ended up wrapping the wire over the probe around the stainless steel stud as a weight to keep the probe submerged. Without this, the probe would never have been able to reach the surface of the congestion and take readings. Second, the iOS app seemed to have lost contact with the thermometer when my phone was locked. This is particularly annoying because I have another Inkbird bluetooth thermometer that I use for grilling that won't turn off. I only noticed it after 15-20 minutes of overloading, at which point I had to remove and reinsert the battery from the base to reconnect it to my phone. I'm hoping this can be fixed with an app update as I really don't want to use a dedicated phone, iPad etc to monitor the mess. It also makes temperature warnings meaningless unless you're within earshot of your device. Overall, this is a good thermometer, especially since the probe is rated waterproof. I just hope they can fix the wiring and connection issues.
