UPDATE: My apologies to Ink Bird. Today I received a notification that the temperature is too low. So the alarm will send notifications when the app is not open. There must be a delay in sending the alarm this way as it wasn't triggered when I ran the test. The product is reliable, but more detailed documentation on how the installation works and features may be required. UPDATE April 12, 2021: I was so happy with it in our freezer that when we bought a second freezer I bought another unit to control its temperature. Unfortunately, instead of the new device I paid for, I received unsealed packaging and a device with batteries inserted. Instructions were included, but there were also instructions for a completely different monitor from a different manufacturer. It works as far as I can tell so I'm not returning it, but potential buyers should be warned about this
