Update after wearing them I ended up ordering a medium size. The outer straps work better on a mid-top for me. The velcro is better for the bigger ones, overall the medium size was suitable. I like these knee pads because they are big, hard, and smooth (so they slide and don't get caught). because I thought it would end up being an "adult" size, and I think I was right. I'm not tense, but I have skinny legs. If you're the big dude at the gym who never skips leg day, you might need to lengthen the straps somehow. I like that they are lightweight but feel heavy and I can slip them over my pants without taking them off. They're not very quick to put on and take off, since you have to thread two straps through the plastic eyelets, but they are secure and don't slip.
