So, my snowblower and lawnmower both needed the cords replaced. Looked on yootoobe, looked easy to do; I've done small engine repairs before. I measured the cords with calipers and felt the #5 came closest to the existing cord. The lawnmower required more disassembly then I thought; I had to remove the cover, the gas tank, and the shroud to access the recoil assembly. Time for cleaning all the crud out! BUT-couldn't figure out how to fish the new cord through, wished I had tied a thread onto the old one before I pulled it through. I was afraid I was going to have to take the spring assembly apart, which I wanted to avoid. Another look on the web-OK, I burned the ends with a lighter, but this site says to pull the end with a cloth while it's hot to make a point. OK, lighter, work gloves.nice tapered point! But it's hot? I'll put it in the freezer! After 15 minutes, it was stiff and maybe slightly shrunken, and I had NO PROBLEM pushing it through the tiny hole in the bobbin. Snowblower came apart easily, three screws. Used the same technique and it only took a minute other than the time in the freezer. $17/100ft and I have enough left for about 8 more engines.
