I bought this for my Home Office + Home Automation setup. My basic needs were multiple WiFi SSIDs and VLANs for each SSID. I've always used Netgear by default for my home network (switches, routers, cable modem). Imagine my surprise when I started setting up the WAC510 Access Point. The web management interface was terribly slow. Think 1-2 minutes to load the first page! Additionally, the device was driving me nuts not being able to figure out how to handle a DHCP IP address when the VLAN is enabled. I struggled with the Netgear WAC510 for several days to get what I needed. I even did a firmware update midway through to check if there is an old bug in the firmware working out of the box. I thought I was, but I ended up taking a chance and ordered a TP Link device and Linksys instead - both working with my configuration in just 5 minutes out of the box. Netgear has shot itself in the foot by focusing on a plethora of cloud management capabilities and completely ignoring the device's primary use case. Too bad now I'll have to keep looking at other brands until I find one that's reasonably priced and 90% of the time out of the box. If you're buying WAC access points and accidentally reading this, do it yourself. Do a favor and check out the TPLink EAP Series.
