Sharpens blades very well

I have very old knives from my grandfather which are wonderful to hold but they are more boring than his stories about the Great Depression and what life was like before TV. So I got this sharpening steel to try and give them some life back without sharpening the old blades. Some points: FOR: - Works well. My experimental knife sharpened fairly well, and I went from tearing paper to slicing sharpening in about 60 seconds. - Heavy weight. The block has a weight that slows the movements of the hand holding it, reducing the risk of injury - There are tilt guides (?). If you need them, they will appear on the handles. CONS: Lightweight plastic grip makes this front end heavy. I sharpen by hand, not on a cutting board, so this throws it off a little bit. - No forearm. As I said, I prefer to sharpen in the air, and when you slide the blade all the way to the handle, the guides point the knife right into your fingers! I am very happy with this item although it was not designed for the way I like to sharpen. my knives. If you are new to sharpening, this is a good article for first use.
