Keep Your Knives Sharp

They say it's easier to cut yourself with a dull knife than a sharp one. Still, I like it when my kitchen knives are VERY sharp. I have them professionally sharpened twice a year, using a sharpener in between to keep the blade clean, smooth and sharp. I had actually worn out the steel that came with my original set of knives, so I definitely needed a new one. This sharpening stone is exactly what you think it is. Easy to hold, easy to use and still retains its texture well. If you have good…

Not particularly impressed. Just OK

I like knife sharpeners and figured why don't you try them as they were offered to me for free other than the tax cost. However, I'm not impressed even if it will get the job done. A corner lead might help, but not much. Basically it's a visual connection. The sharpener itself is pretty good, so basically you have to know it and get used to using it over time to get the best results. I have better ones in my kitchen so I take them to work where I'll probably use them more often. No I'm not…

Very good, excellent balance

I have used many sharpeners over the years and there are some differences. This is one of the best so far and I've had professional models to compare. Of course it works. He sharpens good knives without being cruel or grinding them down like stones and sharpeners. Steel balances between work and damaging the knife. This works correctly. But what I really like is the balance. It feels good in the hand. No slip. No unexpected movements or inclinations. Faber is not known as a manufacturer of…

Superb honing machine

This honing machine works great. The stem is firmly inserted into the handle, so everything feels solid and doesn't go anywhere during use. I like that the handle also has angle guides (15 or 20 degrees). While I personally wouldn't use them as I'm perfectly happy just trying them out for myself, it's a nice touch, especially for someone just getting used to using one. Admittedly, if you are looking for a "knife sharpener". " is not exactly what you need. While it's true that it can sharpen a…

Feels very insecure: Kitchen & Dining

The Farberware name doesn't usually disappoint, but in this case it does, at least to me. years and I've tried almost everything. Personally, I've had the most success with the bars, but I was still excited to try it as getting the blade angle right and consistent can be one of the biggest challenges. All I can say is that I didn't feel safe using the top down method presented in this listing. It seems unstable and ill-conceived, and I can see it easily becoming an accident for someone not…

NOT for horizontal steel method. ONLY for vertical descent.

This steel comes with instructions for sharpening as well as an angle guide - it says hold the steel vertically, press the tip of the steel onto the cutting board and move it down. This works for shorter knives. (The steel is only 20 cm long, so some geometric adjustment is required for longer knives.) this steel. There is no protection for the hands, just two gentle angles that guide the knife tip gently to the wrist. Rotating the steel 90 degrees helps a little, but it's not enough to make…

Sharpens blades very well

I have very old knives from my grandfather which are wonderful to hold but they are more boring than his stories about the Great Depression and what life was like before TV. So I got this sharpening steel to try and give them some life back without sharpening the old blades. Some points: FOR: - Works well. My experimental knife sharpened fairly well, and I went from tearing paper to slicing sharpening in about 60 seconds. - Heavy weight. The block has a weight that slows the movements of the…

For sharp knives. Use

You see people sharpen knives very effectively by pressing steel, but they are not used as effectively. You need it: it straightens the blade of a knife after it's been sharpened on a whetstone or whetstone, but straightening doesn't really do anything. another after sharpening. You can feel that rounded edge with the graininess of a thumbprint: Rub (oh my god, not DOWN) the edge with your thumb and you'll feel that one direction is rougher and the other smoother. The rough direction is where…

This is a good honing machine with a really useful bonus feature

Before I start sharing my experience with this honing machine, I need to eliminate the misidentification on the packaging and labeling of this product. Simply put, this product is a knife for sharpening steel; it is not a sharpener. The difference between a sharpening steel and a sharpener is as follows. Everyday, normal use of your kitchen knives will result in – for lack of a better term – small "dents” on the cutting edge that make your knife appear dull. A grinder is used to straighten…
