After a summer of limited climbing due to work, and I climbed mostly at the gym, my hands weren't in climbing shape. Expecting to climb a lot of cracks on a two week trip in the Sierras, I didn't want to break my arms for the first few days and suffer the rest of the trip. I've used homemade tape gloves in situations like this before, but decided to try the commercial version. I was looking for a product from another manufacturer that I had heard great reviews of but it wasn't available so I went with this one. Basically they did their job. I've consistently been able to latch onto long climbs without discomfort and they didn't get in my way too much. But there were some problems. First, the rear tires are thick. Protective, yes. But it doesn't match the shape of the back of the hand very well. Worst of all, the knuckle at the base of my middle finger was constantly being squeezed and developed a deep bruise or sore over time that only lasted two weeks and this is due to simple wear and tear unrelated to jamming. with you. Another problem was the velcro on the wrist. First, it's not very secure. Also, the exposed Velcro hooks snag on slings and other climbing gear, which can be very frustrating when trying to place gear from an awkward position. To prevent this, I had to wrap sports tape around the open Velcro straps. The design of these gloves could be revised.
