Review on Dorman 696 739 Engine Intake Hose by Eric Weber

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works fine, slightly softer than OEM, spring compressor on airbox end sucks.

Everything is fine and working. However, it doesn't quite match the OEM for two reasons: it's softer than the OEM, and it eliminates the use of a factory yoke that attaches to the airbox outlet, replacing it with a round spring that you have to fit into a groove that is molded at the end air chamber. As for the softer and more pliable rubber, it could either be because the original rubber is 10 years old and the rubber has become hard and brittle (causing my OEM to crack and fail on those flexed flex sections of the ring) or it could be because of it consists of a thinner or softer material. In any case, I don't see any problems with the softer material. It shouldn't flex under vacuum and of course the Honda Accord isn't reinforced from the factory so I don't see a problem. I do NOT like the idea of replacing a good factory metal yoke with a spring. The spring was double, two pliers to install it after the inlet hose was installed. I looked at installing the spring on the intake hose before installing it but it was stuck as it had a lot of friction. I used some washer fluid as a lube to apply. WW fluid isn't really slippery but due to the moisture it has created enough lubricity for me to apply and WW fluid is completely harmless to your intake/engine and is similar to the methanol injection fluid used on diesel and supercharged cars becomes. (It's methanol and purified water, if you don't use bug wash just use the plain blue stuff). I would buy it again if needed as it gets the job done and is cheap, but an OEM style with proper clips and no crappy spring would be easier to install. My photos show both new and factory (top) and new (bottom) so you can see the crappy spring compressor against the OEM metal clip.
