Great product - even better customer service

Bought this to set up at the end of a long road. I had some experience with the MURS radio band before buying it and for rural areas it offers good range. When I received my device along with the necessary "bird house" case, I was very excited to get it working. I noticed pretty quickly that he eats batteries in the summer. After a few months, the device stopped working even with new batteries. I called Dakota Alert support and the owner very patiently walked me through the diagnostic process. We found that from frequent battery changes a wire had come loose and when I tightened it the unit worked again. A few months later the device stopped working again. I called support again, ran the diagnostics and this time the IR sensor was shorted. I was offered to repair the part for free, including shipping both ways. Wow! I'm very familiar with basic electronics and it took two screws and a few wires to replace the sensor. I decided to do it myself and they sent me the part for free. In less than five minutes the device was up and running again and a year after this repair I had literally no problems with the device. He just works every day. My study is in the basement on the opposite side of the house from the driveway and the radio on my desk gets the signal easily. You can also charge the radio while it is in use, which is a big plus. Most radios I've dealt with in the past don't have this feature and charging them while they're on will damage the radio. This is not the case with the radio station MURS. By the way, if you want to use rechargeable batteries and you know about electronics, add another battery box for one AA battery. There is space inside the case to easily do this. Now you can use rechargeable AA batteries and save on new batteries. If you choose the standard free AA, make sure you're buying from a reputable brand. I have found that batteries tend to last much longer in cooler weather. Dakota Alert is a great company behind their products. Do yourself a favor and support them. You will not regret it.
