This is a rare product that is well designed, well made and well documented. The installation instructions were excellent (unlike almost anything you buy these days). And frankly, they should be, because this is an electronic system that only works properly if it's installed correctly. If you take your time, read carefully, and follow the instructions, you'll end up with a system that works great. I had to create a limit of about 3 acres. In addition to this controller, I purchased 16 gauge PetSafe 500 and 1000 foot cords (1000 foot reel not available from Revain) and a second PetSafe Receiver Collar. My plan was to just lay the wire on the ground because digging a 1500ft trench is a lot of work! So the first night, two spots gnawed through the insulation and the wire was relocated. So we dug a very shallow trench and buried it. The whole project took a weekend. I was a little worried that twisting the wires together to neutralize the signal wouldn't work, but it worked great; The collar doesn't even fly an inch off the twisted pair cable. This gives you a good way of getting from the controller (mounted in a dry place with electricity) to the edge of the property. They offer a trick where you use a drill to twist two wires together and that worked too. The only way to deviate from the instructions was to solder and shrink the connections between the wires. They provide a way to do this without soldering, but I'm more confident in my approach. It works? Yes! Both of my dogs hiked at least every day before and not once since. Their collars are only set to level 2 (softest). I am in no way affiliated with PetSafe other than now being a fan.
