Updated Review - Need to change router settings

****************************** UPDATED REVIEW*** *************************** I searched YouTube for this router and found a quick guide on how to use the URL to update the settings. After that, the router reliably connects to my devices, even if I turned it off overnight. I particularly like that I don't have to give MikroTik any personal information to control the router. I've found that most companies now require you to sign a privacy policy that gives them access to your family's data - just to use the gear you bought. No thank you. No technology is vital enough to me to reveal my family's personal information. I'm glad MikroTik doesn't support such an aggressive policy (extra star). There's a lot you can do with a router, and there are tons of tutorials on YouTube. I don't have time to do all of this, but it's nice to know I can do it in the future. One star off because it doesn't work out of the box. You need to update the software and change the settings yourself. Then you have to restart the whole system (modem and router). The Quick Setup Guide included with the manual is written in 4.0 x 10^-3 font. I couldn't read it. Thank goodness there are instructional videos online. However, you don't need to watch a tutorial video to use the 'new' tech device you just bought, so minus 1 star. If the router is still running after a year (my goal is to have at least 4 years of it), I'll add another star. I will also update my review if anything goes wrong. ******************** Connected to a new gigabit modem (docsis 3.1). At first the router did not forward the internet. With the help of my ISP I reset all settings and went online. For some days. Every time I turned off the system (at night) the router wouldn't reconnect the next morning. Even after resetting everything. I would check if I still get internet signal via cable, modem. I was. If I wired my machines directly to my modem, I would be online. Try this router offline. It doesn't matter which ports I used (1/3 or 2/4). When the router worked everything was fine. But I couldn't stay online reliably. My ISP couldn't help me either. I've read rave reviews of this router, but mostly from techies. Like many others here, I work 7 days a week, long hours. I don't have the time or interest to learn how to set up a router. I wanted simple plug-n-play for 2-3 computers hardwired (RJ45) to the internet. I don't know why this router didn't, but I need to find another router. If you have time to get acquainted with setting up this router or you are already familiar with the process, I've read that this is a highly customizable router. But if you just want something that works out of the box, you'd better look elsewhere.
