This is a great set whether you are a beginner or an intermediate artist. As a beginner, you can follow the YouTube tutorials that will walk you through each drawing step and use the light outlines on paper as a guide. Advanced artists can use a sketch as a starting point and let their imagination run wild. The paper is very thick, so it can absorb a lot of ink and water. There are no protrusions, so you can do a full coat of paint on either side. If you use LOTS of water you can lay the paper down to keep it flat, but this isn't necessary for normal drawing. My only "negative" feedback is that I wish there were more choices of available sizes and page counts per notebook :)
