Review on ⚡ Enhanced Extech DVA30 Non-Contact Current and Voltage Detector by Dave Willis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent adjustable ultra high sensitivity, nothing like it for the price. Can't live without DV30 or DVA30

Actually I have both this DV30 and DVA30 which detect both voltage and current. Both tools are excellent, even essential, when doing electrical work that may involve pulling wires through walls. There are very few voltage testers with adjustable sensitivity in this price range and matching control is required as these devices are very, very sensitive (which you need!). , these instruments are probably overkill and too sensitive. Better get one that requires you to touch the cable or connector, like Southwire or other devices. Sometimes more is not better. However, if you want to detect or trace hot wires through walls, these devices are the way to go and you'll need to spend a lot more to get better performance (e.g. one of the Amprobe tracers I have, they can do a lot be expensive although you need it when you need it.). These Extech devices are fine for use indoors, through drywall, etc., but aren't necessarily the best for finding underground wires (although they can work in some cases). Also, the wires need to be hot (although for detection purposes you can give the impression of say 24 AC if you're comfortable with that. The DV30 only detects voltage, which is probably all you need, while the DVA30 can also detect current flow, which is useful in special situations as the current detection is even more sensitive (but current needs to flow, which requires a full circuit, not just the presence of voltage, which just needs a hot wire.) I personally like the DV30 because the drive control is simpler easy to use and has an indicator light to let you know it's on I've left it on my DVA30 far too many times only to find the batteries died when I use it You have to give the DVA30 a test light Also, both testers should have an LED light at the end to illuminate your work (although you'll need a small flashlight pe can attach to the sides, not elegant but good). After all, I'm EE and have used various power tools for over 50 years so I know one when I see one.
