Reliable and Trusted Tester

These are the only NCVTs I trust and buy. I rarely get false readings, the battery life is great, they're durable, and I've seen a craftsman duplicate the design. The LED is bright enough to be useful without killing the batteries quickly. The only complaint I have is that after I've dropped them a couple of times the battery compartment comes loose and I have to reassemble them. It seems that one turn of the strap keeps it from opening after further falls. I might also add that I probably drop

  • Excellent Overall Performance
Cons
  • The list will be long.

Love-HATE-Love-HATE

As an electrician with over 30 years experience I need good testing tools. This tester has the best combination of features I've seen in a compact size that's easy to carry. BUT damn it doesn't last long. I had 3 of these and they all failed for no apparent reason, they just stopped working. This is NOT a cheap imitation and for that amount of money I bloody expect it to last. I have two Fluke test tools that have been around for 15-20 years and they still work perfectly. Terrible situation…

Does what other tools can't

I have many diagnostic tools but none are as easy to use as this one to trace the actual current flow in a circuit that I can't see. I found the DVA30 easy to use. I've used it successfully to run 120VAC and low voltage AC wiring behind drywall and under cellulose insulation. I was able to trace 12VAC landscape lighting wires in the yard and under fine dirt. Separate adjustable sensitivities for voltage and current detection are very useful for finding the signal and pinpointing exactly where…

Nice concept, but contradictory readings.

I have been using inexpensive voltage testers for troubleshooting for several years but was excited to try this more expensive voltage tester on an unplugged outlet where my problem probably should have been the connection. hidden behind dry stone walls. Sensitivity was excellent but inconsistent or intermittent when I ran some tests on the switch panel. I read all the L1 side switches of the standard 220v split phase panel but not the L2 side switches. Very strange - the tester read the…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

Actually I have both this DV30 and DVA30 which detect both voltage and current. Both tools are excellent, even essential, when doing electrical work that may involve pulling wires through walls. There are very few voltage testers with adjustable sensitivity in this price range and matching control is required as these devices are very, very sensitive (which you need!). , these instruments are probably overkill and too sensitive. Better get one that requires you to touch the cable or connector…
