I have been using inexpensive voltage testers for troubleshooting for several years but was excited to try this more expensive voltage tester on an unplugged outlet where my problem probably should have been the connection. hidden behind dry stone walls. Sensitivity was excellent but inconsistent or intermittent when I ran some tests on the switch panel. I read all the L1 side switches of the standard 220v split phase panel but not the L2 side switches. Very strange - the tester read the voltage on the toggle switches in the panel and de-energized on the L2 side without changing the sensitivity setting. Checking the Romex lead further gave me the same readings. I checked L1 and L2 with a good voltmeter and both legs showed the same voltage. All but one of the circuits were actually good and the problem was in the wiring from the panel. All circuits are panel tested. Since a device that doesn't always work is worse than nothing at all, I've decided to return it. You may have better luck, but I'll go back to my tried and true (if not sensitive) voltage testers.
