They seem to be as strong as the plastic bags I've used. They don't have ties, which I like, but I can ignore that. They also have an odor that is difficult to identify. The smell isn't bad or strong, and many probably won't even notice it. Packaging should be used and not left on the shelf for a long time as it will deteriorate. I really like that I no longer use ordinary plastic garbage bags that have been sitting in a landfill for years.
