I absolutely abhore mutli-mode flashlights.and I love 18650 batteries!This little puppy puts out a really great, bright beam with a nice spot that's not too narrowly focused. It's for longer range type stuff and not really meant for "in your face" type work as it's too bright and will reflect back too much to be comfortable for much more than a couple minutes or so. I have a small single 14500 battery (AA size lithium) slide focus with the clip removed that's my EDC (Coast HX5) and a headlight for that.It doesn't overheat at all, it's tough, solid and seems well built. The lens is glass and not polycarbonate. And yes.you could use it to blind an assailant and then quickly give 'em a little tap on the noggin with it and it probably wouldn't even blink.My other one is still going strong after more than two years now. I live in the PNW working night shift on a flightline and use it a lot for performing aircraft inspection, so I use it in the rain all the time. It works perfect for this task. The only thing I did is use a q-tip to wipe a thin layer of silicone grease on all the o-rings for lubricity when unscrewing stuff (mainly changing the battery) and to ensure better water resistance. Dropped it in puddles and have had no problems (don't let it sit there immersed obviously). I use up to 3500mah batteries that have constant amp ratings as low as 4.5 amps (protected button top) all the way up to 30 amp flat tops, and they all fit and regulate exactly the same in this light. I haven't timed the duration, but with such high capacity I wouldn't worry about using it for a night hike or something like that. Especially considering you could very easily carry a spare battery or two in one of those little rubber protectors in your pocket. It always lasts me several shifts and sometimes I use it a lot.like after a lightning strike on a jumbo.the entire aircraft has to be closely inspected and multiple systems tested.nose to tail (NOT a one man job!).Truly excellent general use flashlight with the simplicity of single mode and the size, power and capacity of 18650's.at what I consider a bargain price.
