They last a long time.
Yes I love these beats. Mostly stainless steel drilling, with Tap Magic Fluid. HSS 5/16" drill bits can drill 4-5 holes in 1/4" stainless steel before dulling. So far I've drilled about 16 and about 12 inches of the entire rod on the lathe and the Dewalt 5/16 inch drill bit is still sharp. They also drill faster than HSS.
