Review on πŸ“Ή ZOSI 8CH Full 1080P Hybrid 4-in-1 HD TVI DVR: High Definition Video Recording for CCTV Surveillance System with Real-Time Monitoring by Chris Munns

Revainrating 3 out of 5

**Updated** Great replacement for Q-See or DVR.

4 stars discussed but decided it was unfair because of the price it's great for its price. I recently had a Q-See system crash due to the motherboard not providing power to the hard drive. I think I paid over $700-800 at Costco at the time and only had it for 1-2 years. Not wanting another cheap system I started upgrading my DVR to a POE IP camera system but as a last resort I needed something so I decided $60 was what to lose. Got the device, plugged in the coax cameras, monitor, LAN, etc. and everything was immediately ready for use. The user interface is the same or even better than that of Q-See. I have a static IP address at my company and setting up Q-See for remote viewing was a port forwarding nightmare. It has a P2P login type which I was skeptical about because you have to login, but it popped up right away and the client is easy. I haven't tried the direct IP route yet. My Q-See had a 2TB hard drive that was full of old videos when it was pulled out. ZOSI recognized the drive and asked me to format it, which only took a minute. I surf on iPhone and Mac with apps. The Mac app only shows me poor SD quality, but the iOS app gives me a choice of SD or HD. All in all, it takes a bit of getting used to because it's different (the software for everyone is iffy at best), but for $60 it's fantastic. **1 month update** So I had to downgrade it to 3 stars. The above assessment remains valid, except that two ports on the device experienced video degradation during the first week (see screenshots). Even when changing cameras and cables, the problem stayed on two ports (actually only on the first two ports) and did not follow the cables/cameras. I can say that ZOSI reacted very quickly and sent a new block. Installed a new device and everything looked fine the first day, then the same problem reappeared. Admittedly I installed the DVR in a lockable DVR box and the monitor is on top of the box so there may be some interference but I'm not sure. For $60 I'm moving the device around to see if I can get it working. ZOSI was still responsive and willing to try and troubleshoot. If moving the device fixes the problem, I will release a new update, but even if it does, there is something wrong with the device, making it susceptible to glitches. It's really strange that two devices face the same problem on the first two ports.

Pros
  • Like all so far
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
