My knives were dead - absolutely dead - they'd been in the dishwasher for years and never been sharpened (they mashed tomatoes etc) so everything was worth a try. This device is easy to hold and use. At first I didn't think it would work, but that's because my knives were very dull. After a few months of regular use, they're sharp again! Not sharp enough for knife experts or super chefs, but sharp enough for me. If you just want your knives to be shaped for chopping and slicing, then that's fine.
