Screen turns on/off

Like many other reviews I can't keep the screen from running with the engine running. I figured maybe the voltage was too high or unstable (my DVM didn't show this, but it's not a Fluke meter or oscilloscope), so I connected a 12V regulator to the power leads. This gave a stable 12.2 volts whether the motor was on or off. Once the engine is running, the screen will turn on and off randomly. However, the device will continue to play music. All cables have been properly connected and soldered. The main unit that was replaced never had this problem (but didn't have Bluetooth). Rear camera works, BT connection is good, radio works well for FM (too much pitch for AM), everything was good except for the screen issue. All settings were saved when switching off and on. Return the device as soon as a well-known brand radio arrives in its place. The car I installed it in was a '96 F-150.
