Why does this player not have 5 stars Let's start with the pros This drive is adapted from a laptop drive. Many criticize the plastic case. The disk is very small. The plastic case prevents the optical drive from being destroyed by static electricity and makes it lightweight. The drive has a Blu-ray reader. This is not a Blu-ray burner. What would you expect for $35? I was really amazed that it can read DVD-R, DVD+R, CD-R, CD+R. It can read almost any DVD or CD. It can also burn almost any DVD or CD. Some complain that the drive is so small that labeled discs cannot be read. The case could be 1/16 inch bigger. I haven't had any major problems with it, but it's a minor oversight. The drive is highly portable and is great for use with laptops. The disc was pretty solid. Now about the cons and lowering the star. two very short drive cables. So the only real design flaw is the performance or lack of an external power supply, reducing the drive to 4 1/2 stars. The drive works very well. It is made of plastic on the outside, which prevents short circuits caused by static electricity. Should have added some software and a few bucks more power supply.
