Review on Irwin Tools Hanson Extractor 11135ZR by Mike Groover

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Spark plug removal A+++

First of all I would like to say that these size 5 extractors especially helped me to get rid of the jam. This easily saved me over $1,000 at the store to get the heads out. This allowed the threaded portion of the spark plug to be unscrewed in less than 15 minutes (without soaking the Parts Blaster overnight). I tried spiral extractors first but couldn't get them to bite and pull. Since the threads expand through the spiral, this did not help. So I searched the internet and found these. Wow, they got here quickly and the quality seemed good. Preparatory work for their use consisted of soaking the spark plug tube overnight with a parts blaster or penetrating oil. I did this last night and just crossing my fingers that it works. I found the size 5 fit the inside of the fork very well, and tapped on it. I had a 13mm 16 point rosette which matched the end very well. I took a half inch ratchet and started twisting it, it twisted but didn't bite. At this point I started to get a little discouraged that I would have to tow it. On the second try I scored the extractor there. Not very hard, but just enough to get him up and not move easily. Then I sprayed the blaster parts on him and waited 5 minutes. When I tried turning it 1/2 inch with the ratchet this time, it resisted. I squeezed a little and he gave way. I thought he slipped again but to my surprise he started unwinding the threads. I can't say how happy I am with this product. QUALITY is putting it mildly. If you need a spark plug and don't think it will work, try the following.1. Soak the part for at least 24 hours. BE GENEROUS with a Liquid Key or similar product. It will still burn or evaporate when you're done. 2 Leave it at least overnight and maybe spray a second time and leave. PATIENCE IS THE KEY! 3. Take a size 5 extractor and tap it in with a hammer. As said, no hard hits, just push as Happy Gilmour would say. Find a good head that fits up to the end of size 5. For me it was a 13mm 16 point head. Turn it over and see if it gives. If not, try soaking longer and use heat if needed. I personally didn't have to use a burner to heat it up.5. Sip iced tea or beer and feel the relief. Good luck and don't doubt the product, it works great!
