I am using this CD writer with a Pentium II 233MHz PC running Windows 98 (Second Edition). Someone below mentioned that this writer doesn't work with Win 98 - it clearly doesn't. It's smaller and more portable than the previous HP external CD writer I had. My computer does not support USB 2.0; so I get the max write speed of 4X. This means that it takes about 20 minutes to burn a complete CD-R. If I get a newer computer with Win XP I can use the 24x write speed. I had some problems installing on Win 98. But the installation was able to complete and the computer recognized the drive after I downloaded the USB patch for Win 98 PCs. A patch (14MB) is available on the Iomega website under the Support section. The hot burn software that comes with the drive is pretty easy to use. I was able to easily burn a music CD by selecting the appropriate MP3 files from the hard drive. USB 1.1 only allowed 4x write speeds, and it took about 20 minutes to create a CD. Other options in the software include creating a data CD (useful for backing up your files) and making an exact copy of another CD you have. Cons: Doesn't come with detailed instructions. Prompts to print the instructions from the CD. But overall very satisfactory.
