Review on πŸ“Ί J-Tech Digital JTD0104/4K 4 Port HDMI Splitter - Enhancing Ultra HD 4K 3840x2160 Resolution with 3D Support by Daniel Aboubakar

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Perfect picture and stability - Problems with 5.1 sound transmission (Dolby Digital/Plus and other 5.1 signals)

PRO:1. It works right out of the box (just follow the instructions and turn on the splitter FIRST, then other devices).2. No crashes - every time you turn on/off another device, the image appears on all screens (up to three tries) with a brief flash. Although there are no glitches.3. Picture quality is really good, with my large 4K screens (up to 75 inches) showing no degradation despite using HDMI cables up to 50ft long. CONS: Contrary to the description, it only transmits PCM stereo to the output device(s) when there is an input signal in Dolby Digital (Plus), DTS, etc. Installed a splitter for the Verizon FIOS DVR and suddenly noticed that my receiver started showing the incoming audio signal type as PCM stereo. So I did a few experiments: 1. Connected the DVR's HDMI output directly to the receiver, the Bypassed the splitter, and immediately got Dolby Digital 5.1 instead of PCM Stereo No other changes were introduced. 2. I noticed that the splitter somehow "deteriorates" the sound of the signal passing only through PCM, but it is ideal for video. So I added an optical SPDIF and a coax cable in parallel with the HDMI cables for the two TVs connected through the receivers. Not as pretty and obviously redundant, but there's no other way to get both picture and 5.1 signal on multiple TVs. This setting also works and the sound is 5.1 instead of PCM stereo. This clearly showed that somehow the splitter only passed PCM stereo. Don't ask me why This also applies when you turn on a TV with an output. Disappointingly, of course, I had no intention of running redundant optical audio cables throughout the house, expecting to only use HDMI.
