Adding this charcoal pellet filled cap eliminated the smell in the garden. However, after about a day, this smell returned to the lower level of the house. Removing the filter solved the problem. I tried to get just a very thin layer of the attached tiny charcoal pellets on the bottom and again the canal gasses rose up the canal. If I have a choice, I prefer the stench outside. According to the code, the vent pipe must be 3 inches in diameter. It's hard to imagine how a pile of 4" diameter coal pellets could compete with a 3" open pile in terms of restrictions. Pipe. Obviously this works for some people, but I'm back to the drawing board. Should the coal be in a mesh bag? My question here is unanswered and the product you are purchasing from this company does not come in a bag as shown in the pictures. It also seems impossible that it will not freeze in cold weather with a tiny perforated grid. So you must look out for that Roof climb seasonal. but the instructions don't mention it. AT LEAST I wasn't stupid enough to weld it to my vent pipe. 1) Every vent pipe I've ever had is made of PVC and this product is made of ABS. I've never seen an ABS vent pipe, and the code doesn't allow gluing ABS to PVC (although there are so-called transitional cements), but it's probably technically fine as 100% waterproof gluing isn't required. 2) The diameter IS SUITABLE for 3" pipes but not suitable for gluing. Why that? I ended up attaching the filter cap to a piece of pipe with silicone to get around the incompatibility. Why doesn't the manufacturer explain this or list the actual ones Materials it is compatible with? (A 3" or 4" pipe in the description is meaningless if they don't specify material type, schedule, etc.) Also, no good instructions are included or posted online, no explanation why they don't fit standard plumbing or what to do about it lame the only thing included is an explanation of why the pellets are in the zip.
