Make sure you use signal level to position it. Some phones/hotspots only refresh power every 35 seconds and it's hard to notice at first. Make sure you position it based on the consistently best db readings. Yes, it takes a lot of time. If you do this, it works great. I bet all the negative reviews are from tech illiterate people who just plug in and pray. If the position is wrong, you may get a worse signal than the phone's antenna. This is how antennas work. I got about 710dB better signal (which is huge) in the best parts of the house, but overall performance came at the expense of less jitter. Without an external antenna, the signal level would drop by up to 20 dB or more (!). I would go from a stable 25Mbps to less than 3Mbps and then ramp back up. Random it seems. Even late at night without overloading the tower. My downloads have sometimes been in the single digits (below 10 Mbps) and now they're never that low unless the tower is overloaded. Mostly around 20 now. With load balancing I'm approaching 30Mbps. This improved my ping time by about 10ms. I get 37 ms 12 feet from the router. I'm relatively close to the tower (3 miles) but I'm deep in acres of dense forest, almost solid, between me and the tower, about the same elevation as the tower base, so I have a lot of fluctuation due to seasons and weather. At this price I will buy another one for my other access point. I use two AT&T access points with a load balancing router to replace the internet at home. yes it can be done No, it's not cheap. Yes, unlimited is unlimited at AT&T. Nice.
