Some tires fit the rim without any problems. Some tires seem a few sizes too small and you dare to try them on! I recently had a very bad experience trying to fit 700 x 23C tires onto a new wheelset I bought. As hard as I tried, they literally refused to settle down past the last 5-6 inches. I tried all the tricks in the book, including using a narrower rim tape and a liquid dish soap + water mixture as the lube. A bit of arthritis in both thumb joints certainly didn't help either. Somehow I stumbled upon Kool Stop Bead Jack on Revain. There are also several YouTube videos showing how to use them. I knew I should have her. They arrived today and couldn't wait to try them, get to know them and see them work wonders! I deflated and removed a tire that I knew was too tight and had given me problems in the past. Putting the 3/4 tire back on the rim was easy, but I knew the final section was going to be very difficult. I used a tire lever as directed and BAM, this tire was installed in practically seconds! So keep an eye out for potential punctures pending or new tires yet to be fitted. Now you are not a routine job, but a piece of the pie! And the tool is small enough to fit in one of the back pockets of my cycling jersey to take with me on trips. Don't hesitate to add this tool to your tool arsenal. Just do it!
